June has been a busy month for
Sprotbrough Mothers' Union. On June 13th we hosted the Deanery
Songs of Praise in St Mary's Church. It was a beautiful service
and we welcomed many visitors from the Deanery. The hymns were
sung with joy and gladness in our hearts, the readings
thoughtful and Tony's address inspiring.
We are delighted that our new
rector, Tony and his wife Pauline are members of the Mothers'
Union and we prayed for them as new members of St Mary's M.U.
The evening ended with fellowship
and refreshments.
June 19th a few of us attended the
bishop's garden party at Bishopcroft. The weather remained dry,
the gardens were beautiful, and it was a lovely afternoon.
At our meeting of June 20th Chris
Mitchell came to talk to us 'Bags of Difference' Chris told us
how she supports the charity 'Kisiizi Partners' that helps to
maintain Kisiizi hospital and its staff. Kisiizi is a very poor
and rural part of S.W Uganda. Education is very important to
the families out there, government schools have up to 100
children in a class and private schools classes of 30. Pupils
must have uniform and provide their own stationery. Chris has
been out to Uganda for four consecutive years and has got to
know the hospital staff and villagers very well. The families
were struggling to pay for the education of their children and
an idea evolved for the women to make bags from material and
Chris would sell them in the UK. All the money raised for the
sale of the bags go to the individual who made that particular
bag. These bags really do make a difference and it was a very
interesting evening.
Our next meeting on July 18th is the
History of the M.U. with Norma Priest.
