Great news !  The Nave has a new roof, the scaffolding is on its way down, and we have been told we can be back in the church towards the end of July.  Because of the extra work/cost involved in sorting out the Nave roof, there have not been sufficient funds to repair the Chancel roof, this has been put on hold until phase two of the renovation work.  Once sufficient funds are in place the Chancel and Aisle roofs will be repaired  Work to improve the drainage round the church has been completed as planned.  As you can see from the pictures From the inside of the church the Nave roof doesn't look any different.  This is because they have used steel joists to take the weight of the new roof, this has enabled them to retain the interior structure of the Nave roof without doing too much work

Here are the latest pictures of the roof, from the Architect.  It's not looking good, I'm afraid, they have taken the covering off the roof and this is what they found.  As you can see from the pictures, the damage is very extensive, and will require more work to rectify, which means more money.  The test samples on the roof before work started indicated that the roof beams were in good order.  The damage has been caused by water and death watch beetle, which was present a few years ago, the church was treated and they are no more, but this is what they left behind.

Work is progressing, your intrepid webmaster managed to gain access to the interior of the church. As you can see from the pictures, the inside is full of scaffolding which is there to support a false roof.  The exterior also has scaffolding in place for a false roof, this will enable the renovators to work in dry comfortable conditions
